RE: https://tacobelllabs.net/@ultranurd/116475019811050460
someone bought https://friendster.com and is trying to make a new social network on it, though the idea that the domain alone was worth $30k is so silly to me.

@tml There's some info at https://tags.pub/ I had not seen this before yesterday and it now feels like spam. I posted something with several hashtags and each was boosted by accounts with equal (no?) profile photo. Not nice that it's opt-out, via #NoTagsPub on your profile.
@evan This sounds like tags.pub needs to be explained better or even better: Handle posts in ways that don't cause boost notifications on the target. Gettinge one for every one of one's posts could probably be really annoying.
@evan
Can you please remove those of us who blocked entire instance?
@PhoenixSerenity You can just block the tags.pub domain, too.
@jerome Exactly, thank you.
Also, I just added a PR to Mastodon to let you filter or drop notifications from bots.
https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/pull/38809
That won't come out until at least 4.6 (if it gets accepted at all), but it should make those notifications less irritating.
@jerome @deborahh @mayintoronto @evan There really should be an individual opt-out option. I can't add more to my bio here without having to delete some other text.
@deborahh @mayintoronto @PhoenixSerenity @evan that but also the docs mention that if your server subscribes to the relay, everyone on the server will get boosted
Here’s how to prevent it:
If your server is providing data to tags.pub, and you don't want your content to be boosted by tags.pub accounts, you can add the #NoTagsPub hashtag to your account bio. (If you've already got a #NoBots or #NoBot hashtag in your account bio, we'll also skip any boosts.)
@mayintoronto @PhoenixSerenity @evan I wonder if it will boost the toot of a non-follower of tags.pub, if it is *boosted* by a follower of tags.pub?
