I will say that if the Trump campaign faked an assassination attempt which resulted in 2 deaths and a half dozen injuries for political gain, it would definitely be in the top 50 worst things Trump has done; maybe even top 20. But I don't think it's unfair to even bring up the question.
This is such an interesting topic.
There was an article in The New Republic recently on the subject:
@evan They did something long before some of the discussions we have today. Now their law gets hijacked from both sides "this is racist" and "that's only because of too many foreigners here" - a funny example of how things get outta hand... I was so much wondering when I first ran into that.

@mfeilner yes, there's probably a difference between my North American-UK concept of rights versus a more continental view of laicity!
@evan What I found out is that the law is much older than the burkini - it's from the 80ies and based on hygienic considerations.
@evan D will look it up, but I think calling it racist is jumping to conclusions. We will find out.
@evan I, a german, had to buy a french legally correct speedo. That's not racist.
@evan I do not know if that is the intention. It's not that easy.
I might ask ChatGPT to give it a try, and give it some extra incentive to dig deeper because if it digs up some dirt on Claude it'd be good for business.
