@squinky I think there are a lot of developers who feel very proud of their work at the statement by statement level, programming in the small, for whom a machine that blorts out boring and artless but pretty workable code feels threatening.

@squinky but on self-worth, I have been in this game a long time and I no longer judge myself by my ingenious bracket strategy or my exquisitely clever do-while loops, so having a machine that generates them quickly does not feel like a threat. I might feel differently with well-architected, maintainable, featureful products written from scratch by AI.
@squinky at some point I'm going to need to build something with an agentic AI flow, just to see how it goes.
@squinky I haven't yet had an experience where an LLM has proposed a better architecture than I have. Those are harder to measure objectively, though. They might be better at it than I am, and I just cling onto my personal favourite patterns and practices for sentimental reasons.
